| BCI Team Chosen for World Games
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you were picked to go to an extraordinary event that would change your life? What about the opportunity to meet new friends from the US and other countries? This dream will become a reality for the BCI Flyers who were picked to go to the 2009 Winter World Games which will be held in Boise, Idaho. We will be representing team USA as part of the floor hockey competition February 3-9 2009.
First, you had to earn a gold medal during winter chapter events. This could range from floor hockey, skiing, speed skating, and snowboarding. During the Floor Hockey Tournament held in Wildwood, NJ, the BCI Flyers deservingly won all of their games to win the gold medal. We played well as a team and there were no individuals that interfered with our team chemistry.
Our team has been playing 12 years together. Often, we get along and function well as a team. There have been many friendships formed during this time. For example, I have met a good group of friends that have made a good impact in my life. Chris and Kevin McCormac are good friends to have. We hang out and go places such as Six Flags and LBI. When teams have good connections, they often function well as a team.
The BCI Flyers were all excited to hear the announcement of getting picked. Everyone was overjoyed with excitement and tears. For example, one night my mom told my brother Paul and I that she needed to tell us something. My first initial reaction was,” Oh, oh, what did I do now.” Then she explained,” How would you like to go to vacation next February?” "What would we go in February?” That’s when she finally cut to the chase and shouted,” Paul and you are going to Boise, Idaho next February. This exciting news made Paul and I jump for joy. We both shouted,” We did it, we did it. We are going to World Winter Games!!”
There were other reactions to getting picked for World Games. One night, my hockey coach Charlie calls Kevin and Chris to tell them the great news. Charlie first talks to Kevin on the phone. So he asks him,” How are you doing?” Kevin says,” Good.” Then Charlie asks Kevin,” What are you doing next February?” Kevin says,” Nothing yet, why?” So Charlie breaks the news that we our team is going to Boise, Idaho. Kevin is just speechless. He did not know what to say. He was overwhelmed with joy and tears. Afterwards Charlie talks to Chris on the phone. He tells the same thing that he told Kevin. Chris was just surprised and shocked. At first he thought that Charlie was pulling his leg. He realized that Charlie was telling the truth. That we did get picked for the World Winter Games.
The BCI Flyers are a good team to go to represent team USA. We will do this with class, sportsmanship, and dignity. So the next time when someone asks,” You just won the gold medal where are you going to do next?” We’ll answer,” We’re going to Boise, Idaho.”
